National Instruments
Core Hardware Platforms

Our Test Solutions are based on proven systems from National Instruments. Explore each platform in detail:

A National Instruments PXI chassis is a modular platform designed for Automated Test and Measurements. It provides a framework for integrating various PXI instruments and can hold up to 18 PXI Modules. The Modules are selected depending on the application, you may select an Analog Input module to read various sensor information and another CAN module for communications with your Unit Under Test (UUT).

These chassis can operate on both Windows and Real-Time (RTOS) NI Controllers. Real-time controllers offer deterministic execution of tasks. This means that tasks are executed with precise timing and predictability, crucial for applications where timing accuracy is essential, such as: Safety Critical Control systems, Data acquisition, and Signal processing.

A cRIO chassis, short for CompactRIO, is a hardware platform mainly used for industrial automation, monitoring, and control applications. Similar to PXI chassis, cRIO chassis offer a modular architecture. Although, many cRIO systems incorporate FPGA technology, which allows users to implement custom logic and signal processing algorithms directly in hardware. This enables high-speed, low-latency processing of I/O data and enhances system flexibility and performance.

This type of chassis is generally selected for harsh environments, featuring rugged construction, extended temperature ranges, and resistance to shock and vibration. This makes them suitable for deployment in applications such as manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and energy.

CompactDAQs look very similar to cRIO chassis but differ by not have a reconfigurable FPGA as part of their backplane. These chassis just like cRIO can be selected to incorporate a controller. If a controller is not used, a host machine is generally connected VIA ethernet for communication of measurement and control data. These chassis use C-Series modules from NI and cover a wide range of communication protocols and measurement instrumentation.

CompactDAQ is another chassis designed for harsh environments, featuring rugged construction, extended temperature ranges, and resistance to shock and vibration. This makes them suitable for deployment in applications such as manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and energy.

NI FPGA refers to National Instruments Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology. FPGAs are integrated circuits that can be programmed or configured after manufacturing. They consist of an array of configurable logic blocks and interconnects that allow users to implement custom digital circuits. NI’s FPGA products are often used in applications requiring high-speed processing, real-time control, and customisation, such as in industrial automation, data acquisition, and scientific research.

NI FPGA solutions can be implemented across both cRIO and PXI platforms. cRIO chassis can be selected to incorporate FPGA technology on the backplane. While the capability on PXI is achieved by adding a PXI FPGA Module.
